The very first question we get from anyone that inquires about a hair transplant:
“HOW MUCH WILL A HAIR TRANSPLANT COST ME?”
This is also the main reason why many people choose to go bald and avoid treatment- because they are afraid it will cost too much and not give permanent results. We’ve decided to break down the hair transplant cost, and help you understand what you’re paying for.
COUNTING FOLLICLES OR GRAFTS
At your hair transplant consultation, the surgeon will determine how many follicles you need to cover the affected area. We will calculate the number of follicles needed per square centimetre. There are a few factors that come into consideration when calculating this.
Your hair naturally grows in folicles (also known as grafts) of 1 to 4 hairs. The hair follicle is the point from which the hair grows, however, what you see at the surface of the skin is called a hair shaft.
When we calculate how many follicles/grafts you need implanting we consider:
- The diameter of your hair shafts
- The size and shape of your scalp
- Your hair texture and colour
CHOOSING THE SURGERY PROCEDURE FOR THE HAIR TRANSPLANT
Once we’ve determined that number of follicles or grafts, we move on to determine what type of surgical procedure is best suited for the patient. This is decided between the patient and surgeon, as there are medical reasons and patient’s preferences to be considered.
The two main procedures are FUE & FUT. See more information about these here and in the video. However, the main difference is that FUE does not leave a linear scar. The surgeon uses a special machine to individually remove the hair follicles from the donor area and implant them into the affected area (as opposed to removing strips of hair as in the FUT procedure).
Without the scar, the patient is free to style the hair as he/she wants. However, with an FUT transplant, we don’t recommend short hairstyles, because the linear scar in the donor area will show.
Typically the FUE procedure is between £400 and £1000 more expensive because it generally takes about 20% to 40% longer to complete the hair transplant.
TREATING THE ENTIRE HAIR TRANSPLANT AREA (HAIRLINE, CROWN OR BOTH)
The final factor that influences your hair transplant cost is the area of the scalp which you want to treat. This will also determine the 2 factors above – number of follicles or grafts and surgery procedure.
Hairlines are the most common areas that our patients want to treat with a hair transplant and they vary between 700 follicles for one side to 1700 follicles for both sides. If you want both the crown and the hairline, the most follicles that we can usually transplant with a strip surgery (FUT) is 3000. If you are completely bald you might need 2 transplants to fully recover your natural hair growth. However, only about 2% of all our patients need more than one transplant.
WE HAVE THE LOWEST HAIR TRANSPLANT COST IN THE UK
We pride ourselves in being the most affordable hair transplant clinic for both FUE & FUT procedures, yet we offer the same quality as all the other providers.
The reason why our prices are lower is because we don’t have a large sales and marketing team. With us, you book directly with the surgeon, which means that there’s not a hefty commission fee added on top of your hair transplant cost.
