Patient story — Ben Reeves

A professional footballer’s journey

Gillingham, Plymouth Argyle, Charlton Athletic, Milton Keynes Dons and Northern Ireland international professional footballer Ben Reeves underwent a successful hair restoration procedure with Surgery Group.

Surgeon

Dr Hassan Nurein

Clinic

Harley Street, London

Procedure

FUE

Grafts

1,800 grafts (around 3,600 hairs)

Date

June 2019

Open about the decision

The £5,000 treatment was carried out at our Harley Street facility under Dr Hassan Nurein, an experienced cosmetic surgeon and a respected member of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) and the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS).

Ben was referred by one of his friends and decided to be open about his decision to have a hair transplant. It is no longer something that men have to worry about — hair restoration has gained mainstream popularity due not only to the very successful treatment of celebrities, but also the fact they are happy to acknowledge and talk about it.

About Dr Hassan Nurein

Dr Nurein is very highly skilled in both the Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT, the strip method) and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). He is fully aware that hair loss for men — and also for women — can affect people’s self-confidence, very much in the same way as body image does, especially for those continually under public scrutiny.

An acknowledged expert in his field, Dr Nurein travels to national and international conferences and workshops to continually improve his skills further, in his successful efforts to provide maximum levels of care for his patients.

1,800 grafts, six hours, FUE

Originally planned for the previous year, the procedure was postponed because of Ben’s footballing commitments and only went ahead in June 2019.

Ben had approximately 1,800 grafts (3,600 hairs) transplanted using the FUE method — a minimally-invasive hair transplant method where individual hair follicles are transplanted under local anaesthetic and with virtually no pain. The entire procedure took around six hours, with a break for lunch. After a couple of weeks the hairs fell out leaving healthy bulbs under the scalp.

To maintain and improve the results from his hair transplant, Ben follows an ongoing hair-loss prevention programme which includes Nizoral shampoo, the Pharma Hermetic Hair Recovery Programme (HRP), and derma rolling the scalp.

Ben shares his story

Ben shares his hair restoration journey with us and talks about how well the procedure has worked for him.

In the first clip he speaks as the pro footballer discussing his decision; in the second he shows where his scalp is at 14 days after his FUE procedure.
