How Prescriptions Work

Many of our treatments contain prescription-only ingredients. Here's how we make getting your prescription safe, simple, and hassle-free.

Why Do I Need a Prescription?

Ingredients like Finasteride and high-strength Minoxidil are classified as prescription-only medicines (POMs) in the UK. This means they can only be supplied after a qualified healthcare professional has determined they're safe and appropriate for you.

This isn't just red tape – it's an important safety measure. These medications can interact with other drugs, may not be suitable for certain health conditions, and require proper monitoring. The prescription process ensures you get the right treatment safely.

The Prescription Process

1. Complete Consultation

During checkout, you'll answer a short medical questionnaire about your health history, current medications, and any relevant conditions. This typically takes 2-3 minutes.

2. Pharmacist Review

A GPhC-registered pharmacist reviews your consultation and chosen formula. They may contact you if they need more information or want to suggest alternatives.

3. Prescription Issued

If approved, your prescription is issued and your formula is sent for compounding. You'll receive confirmation by email, and your order will be dispatched within 1-2 working days.

What Do Pharmacists Check?

Medical Suitability

That the ingredients are appropriate for your health profile and won't cause harm.

Drug Interactions

That your formula won't negatively interact with any other medications you're taking.

Appropriate Use

That you're using the treatment for its intended purpose and understand how to use it.

Concentration Safety

That the concentrations you've selected are within safe and effective ranges.

What If My Prescription Is Declined?

If a pharmacist determines that your chosen formula isn't suitable for you, they'll contact you to explain why and discuss alternatives. This might mean:

  • Adjusting the ingredients or concentrations
  • Recommending a different formula entirely
  • Suggesting you consult your GP first

If no suitable alternative can be found, you'll receive a full refund. Your safety always comes first.

Who Are Our Pharmacists?

All prescriptions are reviewed by pharmacists who are registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). They work for our partner pharmacy, which is fully licensed to dispense prescription-only medicines in the UK.

Hair Repair Clinic is a specialist hair loss service. All clinical decisions and dispensing are handled by our GPhC-registered pharmacist partners.
