Genuine Regaine For Men Extra Strength foam, 5% minoxidil in a fast-drying, non-greasy foam format. Three 73ml canisters, a 3-month supply at twice-daily dosing. Manufactured by Johnson & Johnson, the original licensed brand of topical minoxidil in the UK. OTC (no prescription needed).
How Regaine works
Minoxidil is a potassium channel opener. Applied to the scalp, it improves microcirculation around the hair follicle and prolongs the anagen (active growth) phase of the hair cycle. Miniaturising follicles get more time in growth and more thickening cycles, producing measurable increases in hair density over months.
The foam format delivers the same 5% minoxidil as a solution, but dries much faster and is less likely to drip. Preferred by men who dislike the tacky feel of standard liquid solutions, or who style hair straight after application.
Who Regaine 5% Foam is for
- Men with pattern hair loss thinning at the crown or mid-scalp
- Men seeking a non-greasy, fast-drying alternative to liquid minoxidil
- Men committed to long-term daily treatment (results reverse if you stop)
How to use
- Wash and dry your scalp (or apply to a dry scalp between washes)
- Dispense half a capful of foam onto your fingertips
- Massage gently into the affected areas of the scalp
- Wash your hands after application
- Allow to dry fully (a few minutes) before styling or sleeping
Apply twice daily:morning and evening. The 73ml canister lasts approximately one month at twice-daily use.
What to expect
- 4 to 8 weeks: initial shedding is normal (follicles cycling into anagen)
- 2 to 3 months: reduced shedding stabilises
- 4 to 6 months: visible thickening and regrowth judged
- 12 months: full effect. Results plateau and are maintained by continued twice-daily use
- On stopping: hair gained is gradually lost over several weeks
Side effects
Foam is generally better tolerated than liquid solution because it contains less propylene glycol and evaporates more quickly.
Common (roughly 1 in 10)
- Initial hair shedding in the first 4-8 weeks. Temporary and a sign the treatment is working
- Mild scalp itching or dryness
Uncommon (roughly 1 in 100)
- Localised facial hair growth by contact transfer if the foam reaches the face
- Contact dermatitis at the hairline
Rare (less than 1 in 1,000)
- Lightheadedness on standing (very unusual at topical doses)
- Palpitations or racing heart (very unusual at topical doses)
When to seek urgent medical advice
- Signs of allergic reaction: facial or lip swelling, difficulty breathing, rash
- Persistent chest pain, palpitations or breathlessness
Who should not use Regaine Foam
- Women (5% strength is not licensed for women; use 2% or oral low-dose under prescriber review)
- Anyone under 18
- Known allergy to minoxidil
- Not for use on broken or inflamed scalp skin
- Not for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding
Regaine vs generic 5% foam
Regaine is the original branded 5% minoxidil foam in the UK, manufactured by Johnson & Johnson. Same active ingredient as generic 5% foam alternatives (Member's Mark, Rogaine Foam in the US) at a premium branded price. Chemically identical; the difference is brand-recognition and pack presentation. If you prefer bulk value, our Member's Mark 5% Foam 4-month supply is the same 5% strength from the same manufacturer type.
Delivery
Dispatched from UK stock (GB only due to aerosol courier restrictions). No prescription needed.
Frequently asked questions
What is Regaine and how does it work?+
Regaine is the original brand-name minoxidil foam. It works by widening blood vessels around hair follicles.
Is Regaine better than generic minoxidil?+
They contain the same 5% minoxidil and are equally effective.
How long does a 3-pack of Regaine last?+
The 3 x 73ml pack provides approximately 3 months of supply.
Can I use Regaine on a receding hairline?+
Minoxidil is most effective on the crown. It may help slow recession at the temples.
Can I return this item?+
Prescription and custom-compounded medicines cannot be returned once dispensed under UK pharmacy regulations. Non-prescription items may be returned within 14 days if unused and in their original packaging. See our returns policy at hairrepairclinic.co.uk/returns-policy for full details.
Why can Regaine Foam only be shipped within Great Britain?+
Aerosol products are subject to courier restrictions that prevent shipping to Northern Ireland and internationally. This is a courier logistics restriction, not a product availability issue. If you are outside GB, our Regaine Solution (non-aerosol) or Member's Mark equivalent can ship where the foam cannot.
Is Regaine Foam better than the liquid solution?+
Same active ingredient (5% minoxidil), different vehicle. Foam dries faster, does not drip, and is preferred by men who style hair straight after application. Solution can be applied with a dropper for precise placement on specific thinning areas. Choice comes down to personal preference.
How much does 3 × 73ml cover?+
Three months of twice-daily application (one 73ml canister lasts approximately one month at half-capful twice-daily). Buying the 3-pack reduces reorder friction and is more cost-effective per canister than buying one at a time.
