So What Is SMP?

While there is hope for men suffering hair loss in the form of medication and transplants, there is little in the way of solutions for men who are totally bald.

Scalp micro pigmentation (SMP) is essentially the process of having your scalp tattooed with tiny dots that resemble the appearance of stubble, giving you the appearance of a short, ‘buzz-cut’ hairstyle.

SMP can camouflage transplant scars, shade thinning areas to increase density, and serves as an option for those with alopecia universalis.

What Does It Involve?

SMP doesn’t penetrate the skin as deeply as normal tattooing, and the colour can be matched to your hair colour and skin tone. Unlike tattoo ink, it also retains its colour — so you’re not going to start off with black dots and end up a redhead ten years later.

Technicians agree on suitable hairlines based on previous appearance and face shape. Sessions typically last three hours; multiple sessions may be required for full head treatment. The procedure is permanent but adjustable and reversible in some cases. The treatment can be touched up as hair greys.

Does It Hurt?

It hurts less than having a regular tattoo, and certainly a lot less than a hair transplant. Anaesthetics are available to numb the scalp, although the majority of people grit their teeth and manage without.

How Much Does It Cost?

Prices vary depending on how much of the scalp needs to be treated, but you’re looking at £500–£3,000.

You can be assured — we have a commitment to excellence when it comes to the level of care we provide.
