Why Kirkland Minoxidil Isn't Available in the UK (Unless It's Fake)

If you have searched for Kirkland Minoxidil in the UK recently you will have found plenty of sellers. What you will not have found is genuine stock. Here is why.

What Kirkland Minoxidil actually is

Kirkland Minoxidil is manufactured by Perrigo (the same pharmaceutical company behind generic Regaine) exclusively for Costco. It is produced in Canada and Israel and sold only through Costco warehouses. It has never been licensed for sale in the UK, which means there is no official importer, no authorised distributor, and no legitimate high street route to market.

For years, a grey import trade filled that gap. Buyers with Costco memberships in the US and Canada purchased stock in bulk and shipped it to UK sellers, who sold it on to British customers at a significant discount to Regaine. The product was genuine, the trade was grey but functional, and millions of UK men used it without issue.

That trade is now effectively dead.

What Costco changed and why it matters

In 2025 Costco introduced a five box purchase limit per member. A box contains six bottles, so thirty bottles maximum per visit, per member. That sounds manageable until you consider what a UK wholesaler actually needed to operate. Bulk purchasing at that scale requires either an army of Costco members making individual trips, or a commercial relationship that Costco has no interest in providing. The economics collapsed overnight.

The result is simple: there is no supply chain capable of moving genuine Kirkland Minoxidil into the UK market at the volumes the old grey trade managed. Anyone selling it by the pallet today should make you suspicious.

What filled the gap

Counterfeits. The demand for Kirkland did not disappear when the supply did. It just became much easier to satisfy with fakes. Counterfeit Kirkland was already a significant problem before the purchase limits came in. With genuine supply now restricted, the counterfeit market has expanded to fill the space.

The fakes have improved too. Early counterfeits were easy to spot: wrong dropper shape, identical batch codes across bottles, watery liquid, chemical smell. Newer fakes are more convincing. The people producing them have had years of practice and a growing market to serve. For the detail on what to check, see our companion guide: how to identify fake Kirkland Minoxidil.

What Member's Mark is and why it matters

Member's Mark Minoxidil is Sam's Club's own brand - Walmart's membership warehouse, not Costco. It is made by the same Perrigo operation to the same formulation as Kirkland. Same product, different label, and one crucial difference: Sam's Club has no equivalent purchase restrictions. Genuine Member's Mark can still be sourced in proper volume through legitimate channels.

That is why the UK market has shifted. Kirkland's supply route died with Costco's limits; Member's Mark's didn't. A seller offering Kirkland in volume today has a supply chain question they probably can't answer. A seller offering Member's Mark doesn't have that problem - the product is the same Perrigo formulation, and the route to market still exists.

How we source ours

Our Member's Mark stock is purchased through Sam's Club's legitimate channels and shipped with original retail cartons and verifiable batch codes. Every batch is checked against the markers in our fake detection guide before it goes anywhere near a customer.

We are confident enough in that supply chain to put money on it: we have a standing £1,000 offer to anyone who receives counterfeit minoxidil from Hair Repair Clinic. The offer has stood for years. It has never been claimed.

The bottom line

Kirkland Minoxidil became popular in the UK because it was genuinely good value for a genuinely good product. That product still exists under the Member's Mark label, and unlike Kirkland, it can still be sourced legitimately.

The question to put to any seller is the same: show me original retail cartons with verifiable batch codes and explain your supply chain. If they can't do that clearly and immediately, the product is almost certainly not what it claims to be. We can, and we will.

If you would rather step off the import question entirely, pharmaceutical-grade compounded topical minoxidil, made to order in a GPhC-registered UK pharmacy, costs a similar amount, is verifiably genuine by design, and can be combined with other actives in a single preparation tailored to your specific needs.Legitimate UK alternatives

Frequently asked questions

Is Kirkland Minoxidil available in the UK+

Kirkland Minoxidil is not officially available in the UK. It is manufactured by Perrigo exclusively for Costco warehouses in North America and has never been licensed by UK regulators. Grey import supplies, which previously filled this gap, have become impractical following Costco's 2025 purchase restrictions. UK patients seeking minoxidil should use clinically proven, GPhC-regulated alternatives like generic minoxidil or Regaine, which are legally available through UK pharmacies and prescribers.

Can I buy Kirkland Minoxidil from UK websites+

Many UK websites claim to sell Kirkland Minoxidil, but stock is typically counterfeit or diverted through illegal channels. Purchasing from unauthorised sellers carries significant risks: fake products may contain harmful ingredients, incorrect doses, or no active ingredient at all. To ensure safety and efficacy, buy minoxidil only from legitimate UK pharmacies or through our platform, where products are verified and supplied by GPhC registered prescribers.

Why is Kirkland Minoxidil not sold in UK pharmacies+

Kirkland Minoxidil has never been licensed for UK sale by the MHRA or other UK regulators. There is no official importer, authorised distributor, or legitimate supply route. UK pharmacies stock only MHRA-approved minoxidil products such as Regaine or generic equivalents. These alternatives are clinically proven, pharmaceutical grade, and meet UK safety standards. Choosing regulated products protects you from counterfeit and substandard goods.

Is Kirkland Minoxidil the same as Regaine+

Kirkland Minoxidil and Regaine are both minoxidil products manufactured by Perrigo, with identical active ingredients and concentrations (typically 5 per cent for men). The key difference is licensing and distribution: Regaine is MHRA approved and legally sold in UK pharmacies, while Kirkland is sold only through Costco in North America. In the UK, Regaine and generic minoxidil offer the same clinical benefits with the assurance of regulatory compliance.

What are the risks of buying fake Kirkland Minoxidil+

Counterfeit minoxidil products carry serious health risks. Fake versions may contain incorrect concentrations, harmful adulterants, bacterial contamination, or no active ingredient whatsoever. Using counterfeit products can damage your scalp, cause allergic reactions, or waste money without treating hair loss. Always purchase from UK pharmacies or GPhC-regulated prescribers. Legitimate minoxidil is affordable, clinically proven, and backed by safety standards.

What should I use instead of Kirkland Minoxidil in the UK+

UK patients have several clinically proven alternatives. Generic minoxidil 5 per cent and Regaine are MHRA approved, widely available through pharmacies, and cost effective. Finasteride (Propecia) is another option for men, available via NHS or private prescribers. For personalised advice, complete an online questionnaire reviewed by a UK GPhC registered prescriber, who can recommend the best treatment based on your hair loss type and medical history.
