Why Kirkland Minoxidil Isn’t Available in the UK (Unless It’s Fake)
If you have searched for Kirkland Minoxidil in the UK recently you will have found plenty of sellers. What you will not have found is genuine stock. Here is why.
What Kirkland Minoxidil actually is
Kirkland Minoxidil is manufactured by Perrigo (the same pharmaceutical company behind generic Regaine) exclusively for Costco. It is produced in Canada and Israel and sold only through Costco warehouses. It has never been licensed for sale in the UK, which means there is no official importer, no authorised distributor, and no legitimate high street route to market.
For years, a grey import trade filled that gap. Buyers with Costco memberships in the US and Canada purchased stock in bulk and shipped it to UK sellers, who sold it on to British customers at a significant discount to Regaine. The product was genuine, the trade was grey but functional, and millions of UK men used it without issue.
That trade is now effectively dead.
What Costco changed and why it matters
In 2023 Costco introduced a five box purchase limit per member. A box contains six bottles, so thirty bottles maximum per visit, per member. That sounds manageable until you consider what a UK wholesaler actually needed to operate. Bulk purchasing at that scale requires either an army of Costco members making individual trips, or a commercial relationship that Costco has no interest in providing. The economics collapsed overnight.
The result is simple: there is no legitimate supply chain capable of moving genuine Kirkland Minoxidil into the UK market in any meaningful volume. The grey import trade that kept shelves stocked is gone.
What filled the gap
Counterfeits. The demand for Kirkland did not disappear when the supply did. It just became much easier to satisfy with fakes. Counterfeit Kirkland was already a significant problem before the purchase limits came in. With genuine supply now restricted, the counterfeit market has expanded to fill the space.
The fakes have improved too. Early counterfeits were easy to spot: wrong dropper shape, identical batch codes across bottles, watery liquid, chemical smell. Newer fakes are more convincing. The people producing them have had years of practice and a growing market to serve. For the detail on what to check, see our companion guide: how to identify fake Kirkland Minoxidil.
What Member’s Mark is and why it matters
Member’s Mark Minoxidil is Costco’s own brand, manufactured by the same Perrigo operation to the same formulation as Kirkland. It is subject to identical purchase restrictions. If you see either product being sold in volume in the UK, the supply chain question is the same, and the honest answer in 2026 is that volume UK sellers almost certainly cannot source it legitimately.
The bottom line
Kirkland Minoxidil became popular in the UK because it was genuinely good value for a genuinely good product. That product still exists. It is just no longer accessible here in any reliable way.
If a UK seller has it in stock in quantity today, ask them to show you original Costco retail cartons with verifiable batch codes and explain their supply chain. If they can’t do that clearly and immediately, the product is almost certainly not what it claims to be.
The good news is that the legitimate alternatives available in the UK in 2026 are better than the grey market ever was. Pharmaceutical-grade compounded topical minoxidil, made to order in a GPhC-registered UK pharmacy, costs a similar amount, is verifiably genuine, and can be combined with other actives in a single preparation tailored to your specific needs.
The grey market served a purpose when it was the only option. It isn’t anymore.
