While there is hope for men suffering hair loss in the form of medication and transplants, there is little in the way of solutions for men who are totally bald.
Scalp micro pigmentation (SMP) is essentially the process of having your scalp tattooed with tiny dots that resemble the appearance of stubble, giving you the appearance of a short, ‘buzz-cut’ hairstyle.
An immediate solution to hair loss with no invasive surgery, no scarring and no down time.
SMP at least gives you the appearance of some hair and an approximation of a hairline – even if it’s just a stubbly one. It can also be used to camouflage transplant scars or to shade small areas where hair is thinning to make hair appear denser too. It’s also a good option for men, like Matt Lucas, who suffer from alopecia universalis.
SMP doesn’t penetrate the skin as deeply as normal tattooing, and the colour can be matched to your hair colour and skin tone. Unlike tattoo ink, it also retains its colour – so you’re not going to start off with black dots and end up a redhead ten years later.
Our technicians will agree a suitable hairline with you, based on your previous one and face shape. Then, they will add hundreds of tiny dots over your scalp. A sitting typically lasts around three hours, and if the whole head is being treated a few may be required.
The treatment is permanent, but it can be adjusted (and in some cases reversed). And don’t worry about going grey the treatment can be touched up to match
It hurts less than having a regular tattoo, and certainly a lot less than a hair transplant. Anaesthetics are available to numb the scalp, although the majority of people grit their teeth and manage without.
Prices vary depending on the how much of the scalp needs to be treated, but you’re looking at £500-£3,000.
You can be assured – we have a commitment to excellence when it comes to the level of care we provide.
